German word “belagerung” means “siege” and this is also a name of a quite interesting war game from XIX century. This game is interesting variant of halatafl, very old game mentioned few times on this blog.
Sometimes you want to play some game with family or friends, but you don’t want to get tired mentally. You rather want to relax, talk with someone during play etc. In such situations games with random element are fine. Some of these games are very popular – eg. Pachisi (aka Ludo). Unfortunately, Ludo is quite simple … too simple. Perhaps you’d like to play some game similar to Ludo, but you want this game to be a bit more challenging, more surprising or demanding more strategic thinking?
If you are looking for such a game, relaxing but not too simple, I propose Malefiz.
Chess bowling? What the heck is it? Let me explain…
There is interesting board game, known in Poland as “kręgle szachowe”. It’s a great game, but I have no idea about its name in English. I also don’t know any traditional name of this game. Words “kręgle szachowe” can be translated to English as “chess bowling” or “chess bowling pins”. But this game has nothing to do with chess or bowling. Let’s just say “chess bowling” is nice name.
